Barnsley Civic Hall Restoration Project

Barnsley Civic Hall is a Grade 1 listed building which had been suffering with some front stonework detoration. We were asked to replicate the moulded pillars and new front sections to match the existing stonework and design.

Only the necessary sections were replaced, so as to keep as much of the original stonework in situ. The dimensions were taken back, programmed into our CNC machine for 100% accuracy, and the stone was produced to exact requirements.

We were asked to provide the stonework using Stanton Moor Sandstone. After the stone was delivered and applied to the building, you can se the lines, curves and shape all flow seamlessly with the existing facade.

All of the internal radius’s mouldings and moulded panels were done by hand. Iain, a talented stonemason, who does work for us, took two weeks, by hand, to get the detailing on the curves.

As you can see, from clicking on any of the images, the work has been done to a high professional finish. Iain has also done other work, which is displayed on our site, such as stone plaques – you can see some HERE.

We Can Also Just Supply Stone Blocks

Both of these projects happened to be on the same street in Bowden, Cheshire! Two different properties had walling coping stones that had deteriorated and needed replacing, along with some fresh build work to a driveway.

The stone is purchased from us to a brief, e.g. rough block size, then the builder who uses our stone on his projects, finished them off on site including coating.

At another property on the street, a new entrance was required to replace pieces that had deteriorated. Again, we supplied the stone and our customer finished it off on site and installed it.

He is more than happy for us to show the work as it highlights the quality of our products and the craftsmanship he deploys.

Solid Stone Window Arch Restoration Project

Natural Stone Window Arch by Buxton Architectural Stone

At Architectural Paving & Stone, we were approached to undertake a bespoke restoration project. A local building needed a new arch to go over a window. We were tasked to make some bespoke pieces of curved stone to fit the space that the old masonry came out of. It required exact measuring to follow the curved lines with smooth edges, and as you can see from the finished product, it has a lovely symmetry.

To make this project we had to have the exact measurements and make the unit in 5 sections. The stone chosen is Stanton Moor Sandstone and fitted the property very well.

The finish on the top was skillfully tooled by Iain our onsite stonemason.
